Sherlock Gnomes Movie Novelization Page 8
Watson turned to Sherlock, still in disbelief that the detective had been willing to sacrifice himself for his partner. “You’d give your life for me?”
“Of course,” Sherlock replied.
“Because you’re the sworn protector of London’s garden gnomes?” Watson asked.
Sherlock shook his head. “No. Because we are the sworn protectors of London’s garden gnomes. Watson and Sherlock, partners in crime solving.” He shook his head. “I’m sorry, old friend. I took you for granted for so many years. I should have realized that my—our—successes would never have happened without your hard work. We are true partners, equal partners, and we are strong and undefeatable precisely because we are a team.”
Watson smiled warmly. “How could you possibly get on without me?” he said.
As Sherlock and Watson shook hands, Gnomeo held Juliet close. “Not bad, for our first week in London,” he murmured.
Juliet smiled. “Hey, you’re the one who wanted fun and adventure.”
Gnomeo gazed deeply into Juliet’s eyes. “With you. Always with you.”
Epilogue
It was springtime in the new garden. What once was an overgrown plot had turned into a beautiful garden bursting with flowers, thanks to Juliet and Gnomeo’s hard work.
“What a perfect day for your Seedling Ceremony,” Lady Bluebury told Gnomeo and Juliet. “The garden looks absolutely gorgeous,”
Lord Redbrick took his daughter’s hands in his own. “Juliet. I’m so proud of you.”
Juliet smiled. “Thanks, Dad!” she said as everyone gathered around for the ceremony.
“On this, the first day of spring, Gnomeo and Juliet officially take leadership over the garden by planting a seedling together,” declared Lady Bluebury.
“Benny, do you have the seedling?” Lord Redbrick asked.
“Yes, I do.” Benny fished around in his pockets. “No, I don’t.”
“It’s right here,” sighed Nanette. She handed Gnomeo and Juliet a single, delicate little flower.
“Is this what I think it is?” Gnomeo asked.
Juliet smiled. “A Cupid’s Arrow Orchid. Our flower.”
Holding hands, they planted the seedling together.
“So, I guess this is officially our garden now,” said Gnomeo.
“It is,” replied Juliet. “And I’ll never forget the most important thing in this garden . . . is you.”
“Ooh, that was super cheesy,” Gnomeo teased.
“No, it was extremely romantic,” Juliet protested.
“Grade-A cheddar,” Gnomeo pronounced.
Juliet shook her head, grinning. “Will you shut up and kiss me?”
As Gnomeo willingly complied, the gnomes cheered.
In the front row of the ceremony, Sherlock watched Gnomeo and Juliet, astonished. “Watson! Do you see how they look at each other?” he mused. “Recalculating likelihood of breakup . . . at zero percent. Could that possibly be right?”
“Elementary, my dear Sherlock,” said Watson. He smiled happily. “Elementary.”
